User research: summaryt

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was people how are looking for their internship or their first job. They don't know very well about companies and even they don't know how they can write a correct resume or cover letter. Other user problem are include the people who are looking for new job. In one hand they are so busy and could not spend a lot of time on it. And in the other hand they would like to be aware about new positions in the market that are fit with their abilities.

Different Options

Time

Accessibility

Apps for job seekers dont have ability for scanning skills. In addition they do not have an options for finding resources.

the most of people are so busy. They could not spend a lot of time for looking and searching new jobs.

Platforms for booking are not equipped with assistive technologies. Such as changing the color of background and text.

persona

Problem statement:

Mary Noor is newcomer in Canada , She is finished her education recently and shy is looking for her first job. She does not know about companies and hiring process in canada

Problem statement:

Mark is IT engineer and right now he has a job, However he is not satisfied from his job and does not have enough time to looking for new job.

competitive audit

I choose LinkedIn and Indeed as direct competitive and Centris.ca indirect Competitive. After comparing the different aspects of apps in these spreadsheet, I noted some points to improve them in Target Catcher app.

Digital wireframes

My goal for creating separate pages for each item is to users that do not have any experience or finding the internship, do it easily and prevent to confused process.

Here candidates can access to  the jobs that they created a filter for them before.

In the home page users can choose their goal. If they looking in which kind of these processes.

Usability study: findings

Need to work on filtering

Need to option to save jobs for apply it later

Need to create a document to save different type of CV

Refining the design

  • Mockups
  • High-fidelity prototype
  • Accessibility

Mockups

I found users need more filtering. In addition users need to save or share the job. So I added these abilities to my design.

Also after useability studies I found the users need to have notification for receiving new jobs. So I added it to my design in footer.

In addition, for more accessibility, I decided to add analyse skills diagram to each jobs, So users can identify how many percent this job is near to their skills.

After useability studies I found the users need to have documents to save their difference cv and cover letter and also an inbox to have communication with job recruiter and receiving notifications. So I added them to my design.

Impact:

The users that were part of the studies loved the idea to find resource from companies to candidates. One quote from usability study participant: “I would definitely use an app like that if we had one available!”

What I learned:

User research is important in improving your designs. I see clear direction changes after a few usability studies and notice how much the designs can be improved based on the user’s feedback

Next steps

Providing some videos about the processes of interview and add it to the app

Work on “finding resource” part and add it to the app

Work on create CV and Create cover letter for candidates
